Ken, Don, Brian, Jerry and I headed for the streams on an early Monday afternoon and after getting all of the TV equipment set up broke out the fly rods for an afternoon of fishing. It only took a few minutes before Ken hooked into the first steelhead of the afternoon. Fishing with a 9' fly rod and only a 6 pound tippet Ken landed a nice 6 pound steelie. Ken remarked after landing his steelhead that he couldn't believe the power and strength of these fish.About the same time we were releasing Kens fish Don( known to his friends as Jake) hooked into the second fish of the afternoon. The fish put up a good fight but after just a few minutes Jake came out the winner and landed his first ever Northwest Pennsylvania steelhead. After the release of his beautiful 7 pound steelhead Jake agreed with Ken that the raw power, strength and beauty of these fish was unmatched in any fish he had caught in this size range.Jake was also amazed that fish of this size could be caught in such a small stream with such light tackel.
The filming and fishing went on for the next three days and at the end of this trip Jake, Ken, Brian, Jerry and I caught and released over 100 nice steelhead. Now we did keep a few that we took to Poor Richards East, a bait and tackel shop here in the local area to have smoked.
Also durning the last day of this fishing trip Jake hooked into a good steelhead and after quite a fight and almost loosing the fish twice around downed tree limbs and sharp shale rocks Jake landed the fish of the trip, a beautiful 11 pound 8 oz male steelie which I understand from Jake was headed to the taxidermist.
